A large number of retailers are making their webshops available throughout Europe. Some of these are very successful while others are struggling with different languages, currencies, payment systems, delivery, VAT, cultures, etc. With the Cross-Border Award we want to acknowledge which retailer is ‘best in class’. Which retailer has tackled all these issues in the most effective way and who caters the best to the multifarious European customer.
Who will come out as winner?
Representatives, who are experts within the e-commerce industry in Europe (national associations & e-commerce media specialists), will compose together a ‘longlist’ of cross-border players. The longlist will be published online and readers of e-commercefacts.com and E-commerce Europe as well as the cross-border players themselves will thus be invited to make suggestions on who is missing from the longlist and should be added!
The organisation will assess the longlist against the basic criteria that are needed to do relevant business in different countries, currencies, pricing, languages, etc.
These criteria are:
• Being based in Europe
• Operating their business in a minimum of 3 countries
• The online shops need to be in the language(s) of the countries they operate in
• Maximum of 75% of turnover derived from the ‘home country’
The ones who pass this criteria will go on to the next phase. They will be evaluated against a model known as ‘ShopExperience’*, with checks carried out against more than 300 different dimensions and prioritisation by a GfK consumer panel. 5 nominees will be selected over the course of this activity! These 5 nominees will be invited to come to the Global E-commerce Summit and their ShopExperience Report will be judged by the professional jury who will announce the bronze, silver and gold winners on the night of the 3rd of June during the European E-commerce Award ceremony.
After assembling a ‘long list’ and a ‘short list’ of cross border retailers who fit the criteria above we can now present the Top 10. The retailers of the Top 10 are only 1 step away of getting nominated and winning a bronze, silver and gold Cross-Border Award.
The Top 10 have been put together by our professional jury and they will be quick scanned by the ShopExperience module of GfK. The best 5 will be our nominees and invited to come to Barcelona.
*The GfK ShopExperience is a quality assessment that benchmarks the e-commerce performance of on-line and multichannel retailers in an entirely objective and structured way.
The GfK ShopExperience method measures the webshop performance across the 5 steps in the customer journey from orientation to fulfillment along 29 dimensions. The performance of each company’s webshop is evaluated against the 180+ international benchmarks that represent global best practices. The evaluation is carried out by a group of experienced shop auditors within GfK. The output of the methods is a scoring of the webshop performance from 1 to 10 overall as well as for each of the 29 dimensions along the customer journey.
The Shopexperience method is developed by Arjen Bonsing and operated and marketed by GfK.
