Ecommerce Europe was informed by the results of the holiday period last November and December in Germany. The expected online and distance sales of the German holiday period 2012 surpassed the 2011 figures again clearly.
Last year a turnover during the holiday season was recorded of € 6.8 billion, of which the share of online was 65% or €4,4bn. For 2012, BVH reports total e-sales of €8,3bn, up 22% against last year.
Most purchased were:
- clothing: €2.3bn
- followed by electronics: €0.82bn
- books: €0.56bn
- computer and accessories: €530mn
- hobby and leisure: €374mn
Digital goods such as event tickets, theatre, and travel are more and more important during the holiday season. Digital goods reached €1.7bn this Christmas period. BVH estimates that total online retail will grow close to 26% in 2012.
