On 1 February, Ecommerce Europe was part of a group of 30 industry associations co-signing a joint industry statement on the Data Act. With the policymaking process accelerating on this file, the large group of co-signatories, representing a variety of sectors, including retail, technology, manufacturing, finance, healthcare, transport, energy, and agriculture, call on the European policymakers to adequately tackle key issues of the Data Act, still leaving great uncertainty for businesses across Europe.

With the joint statement, the co-signatories more specifically urge the EU policy makers to ensure that the proposal lays down e.g., clearer definitions on the different actors falling under the scope of the Regulation; proper protection of trade secrets; greater differentiation on data sharing in a B2B and B2C context; strict conditions for B2G data sharing; and feasible obligations during cloud switching processes.

If you wish to read the full joint industry statement, please find it here. A full list of signatories can be found in the letter.
