Ecommerce Europe is thrilled to be nominated to contribute to the newly set-up digital euro scheme Rulebook Development Group. The association will be represented by Roberto Liscia, President of NetComm Italia, and Member of the Board and Executive Committee of Ecommerce Europe.
The objective of this group will be to draft a digital euro rulebook which will consist of a set of rules, practices and “standards” that will allow the distribution of digital euro, on the basis of the design decisions taken by the ECB’s Governing Council. A first draft of the first version of the digital euro rulebook will be subject to public consultation, and the Governing Council is expected to launch the realisation phase later this year in Autumn 2023.
The voice of merchants in the future of the digital euro is key. The roll-out of this new digital currency will reach all EU citizens, contributing to the redefining of the European payment mix. This could be the foundation of a unique secured, cost-efficient cross-border solution for payments, driving competition and innovation in the EU market.
As a representative of the digital commerce industry, we look forward to contributing to the development of a digital euro that can address the challenges of the EU retailer payment market and the evolution of retail.
